Summer bright green
Taken to shades of yellow,
Lemon and lime inbetween,
What colours of autumn
Are already seen?
September an inbetween month
Bridging the gap
Between summer and later.
The countryside not quite yellow,
But neither now green,
How do you describe
The muted shade inbetween?
There are quiet shades
Of tan, bronze and buff.
Is this September touch of colour
Sufficient enough?
Grasses wave, bend and beckon,
Do they point upwards as a way to heaven?
Soft, stylish, carefully well sculpted,
To their stature your gaze is led.
Leaves are floating gently down,
But it is early days yet
For autumn’s newness,
A time when the season
Is coloured in splendour.
See this come soon in October,
A month of splendour,
Gift of the Sender.
But for now, we watch and wait.
The Creator has already set the date
Of Autumn’s highest, brightest annual show,
When we hope to be bathed in a golden, amber glow.
Lord, September really is an individual month, not quite summer, nor as yet autumn, in autumn’s fullness.
For this beautiful bridge in time we praise and thank You. Amen.
